The China Three Gorges University was establish in June 29, 2000 and approved by the Ministry of Education. The university holds of 30 colleges and more then 70 undergraduate programs which contains nine different fields comprising medicine, science, engineering, arts, fine art, economics, management, law and education. The university has a large number of enrolled students which include approximately 23,730 full-time undergraduate students, more then 4,141 postgraduate students and 1290 international students.

The university campus is extent across an area of more than 200 hectares.
