About University

Hunan University of Chinese Medicine traces its history from Hunan Chinese Medicine Specialty School established in 1934 and Hunan TCM Vocational School established in 1953. From 1960 up to a few years after 2000, it is known as Hunan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The current Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was officially created and approved by the State Ministry of Education in 2006 when this TCM College had successfully merged with the former Hunan University of Science & Technology and the Hunan Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (research-focused). The University as it stands now is primarily a teaching-oriented medical school, but also involved heavily in TCM research, providing health-care services to the province, and is one of the leading TCM universities in China.

Hunan University of Chinese Medicine has cultivated more than 70,000 graduates working in the Chinese Medical field with their footprints around the world. The university is among the first accredited medical schools to recruit foreign students and students from HK, Macao, Taiwan. It is also a base of international cooperation in Chinese Medicine at the ministry level. It has cultivated more than 1000 degree students from more than 20 countries or regions.

Special notes:

  • All the fee must be charged in RMB or according to the conversion rate on arrival in university.
  • Hostel fee, visa extension, medical checkup and insurance fee is not included in 1st year fee package due to online classes and shall be paid accordingly upon arrival.
  • Students will pay for stationary, electricity charges and water bill themselves.
  • Food expenses are approx 1000 RMB to 1200 RMB / Month.
  • Fee once paid will not be refunded. Student will follow the rules and regulations of the SU.

About City:

Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, is located in the northeast of Hunan Province, downstream of the Xiangjiang River. It is adjacent to Yichun and Pingxiang of Jiangxi Province to the east, Loudi and Yiyang to the west, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan to the South and Yueyang to the north. This city has been an important grain production base in China since ancient times. Being an intellectual center, Changsha has over 100 research institutions and engineering laboratories. Hybrid rice breeding and the Tianhe supercomputer are the main scientific research achievements.

The Xiang is one of the principal tributaries of the Yangtze River (Chang Jiang). The Xiang rises in the mountains in the northern part of the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi and flows northeast into Hunan province.

The Xiang, an important waterway, was the chief artery of communications for the province until the completion of the railway in the 1930s. Large vessels from the Yangtze can reach as far as Changsha via the Xiang.

In Changsha, the climate is warm and temperate. Changsha has a significant amount of rainfall during the year. This is true even for the driest month. Summer begins at the end of June and ends in September. The months of summer are: June, July, August, September.
