Guizhou Medical University was formerly known as “Guiyang Medical College”. Its predecessor was “National Guiyang Medical College”, which was established in 1938. It was one of the nine higher medical schools at the time directly under the Ministry of Education. Under the leadership of Professor Li Zongen, an expert in early tropical diseases and medical educator of the Medical College, Yang Chongrui, Zhu Zhangye, Tang Peisong, Jia Kui, Yang Jishi, Liu Weide, Hong Qian, Lin Shaowen, Hou Baozhen, Zhang Xiaoyi, Guo Bingkuan, Wang Jiwu, Zhu Yigen, A large number of well-known domestic experts and scholars such as Li Ruilin, Li Yi, and Wang Zhijun gathered in the National Guiyang Medical College, making it known as the “Little Concorde” at that time, and creating a precedent for higher education in Guizhou.

About City

Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province, is located in the southwest of China, on the eastern side of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. It is a transfer point between most China cities, and the various ethnic minorities’ villages in the province. It is said that in ancient times, the city was surrounded by dense bamboo groves, and was famous for producing a musical instrument known as Zhu. Hence the city is also called Zhu for short.

The city is renowned for its colorful culture, represented by various ethnic groups and its special landform – Karst. Guiyang is home to more than 30 minority ethnic groups including, Miao, Buyi, Dong and Hui. Consequently, it abounds with unique folk culture and traditions that give rise to colorful ethnic minority activities.

Surrounded by mountains and forests, the city has pretty well environment. As in other Spring Cities; like Kunming, Guiyang is a popular summer resort city in China. The climate is often mild and moist, neither extremely hot nor cold. Spring, summer, and autumn are all wonderful seasons for sightseeing.


The local Guizhou food is spicy, some like the Sichuan Cuisine, or Hunan Cuisine. The Miao people in Guizhou prefer sour flavor; their Fish in Sour Soup is a must-try. 
Souvenirs with ethnic minority characteristics are popular with tourists. Items such as their festival costumes, masks, and embroideries can be purchased in the shopping streets in Guiyang City, such as Beijing Road, Zhonghua Road, and Yan’an Road.Local people keep a habit of going to bed late and getting up late, so their nightlife is rich. The night display at Jiaxiu Tower area is enchanting. 

Climate:

In Guiyang, the wet season is warm, humid, and mostly cloudy and the dry season is cold and partly cloudy. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 36°F to 82°F and is rarely below 28°F or above 88°F.
