About City:

Chifeng is located in the center of Inner Mongolia and is named after a red mountain in the northeast of the city. Historically, Chifeng was the birthplace of the Liao Kingdom. Chifeng is the most populous city located in the southeastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region at the convergence of Inner Mongolia, Liaoning and Hebei. In addition to the rich historical sites, Chifeng City is also rich in natural scenery, including grasslands, deserts and inland lakes. The Bolongke Desert Tourist Area integrates grasslands, lakes and desert landscapes, and is the best place to experience local folk customs. In addition, there are rare geological wonders such as ice stone forests and ice stone mortar.

Its southern extremity is 315 kilometers (196 miles) from downtown Beijing. Chifeng grassland is an important part of Inner Mongolia grassland. The famous grasslands include Ulanbu Grassland, Gonger Grassland and Bahrain Grassland, among which Ulanbu Grassland is the most beautiful grassland close to Beijing.

Inner Mongolia, with almost one-third of China’s grassland and about one-fourth of its pasture area, has been traditionally renowned for its livestock. The condition of the livestock industry improved markedly after 1950 through the use of such measures as large-scale wolf hunting to reduce herd predation, the immunization of cattle, and improved pasturage and animal husbandry.

Climate

Chifeng enjoys a semi-dry continental monsoon climate. Spring is dry and windy. Summer is short and the rainfall occurs mainly during this period. The average temperature in summer ranges from 18-23 C (64 – 73 F). Winter is long and chilly. Extremely low temperatures are usually experienced during January and February.
